A Simple Visualization Technique to Put You In a Better Mood

You choose what your reality is

The law of attraction is a fascinating concept that seems to have a lot of “guaranteed” benefits that come from many of the practices it offers. People tend to disregard the law of attraction based on its unfulfilling promises, the concept sounding like “nonsense” and people not trusting the process that comes with it.

After listening to an audiobook called Ask and it is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks, I came up with a visualization technique to help me plan out the life I would like to live. The power of visualization can be seen in many ways and it has its stressful moments from time to time as well.

No matter how much you believe in the law of attraction, there’s a little doubt that goes along with these practices when doing them. If you’re a fan of meditation then you may find this technique to be very helpful and if you don’t believe in the concept of spirituality then you may find this technique a little hard to understand.

It’s okay if you don’t believe in it at first because no one usually does but this process does have the capability to put you in a happier mood. The practice is almost identical to daydreaming except you have your eyes closed and your manually asking yourself to think of a scenario in your head.

Before you use this exercise in your daily life, it’s important to know why you’re doing it in the first place. Even if you have doubt like me when it comes to the law of attraction, you still should use this technique for motivation and for inner happiness.

Your dreams have meaning to them and they’re in your mind for a reason. The law of attraction is a tricky subject to follow but the more you learn about it, the more sense it will make.

Humans go through phases in their life but the people who carry a lesson with them from each of these phases seem to be the most content and happy with the life they have. They also have a lot more wisdom than the people around them or the people with who they associate themselves with.

Starting Off With Meditation

The first step to this practice is to get into a position as if you were going to meditate. This differs for almost everyone but you can choose to sit down on the floor, a chair, on your bed, wherever you feel most comfortable.

From there you will gently close your eyes and let your mind wander for the first few moments. You don’t need to focus on anything in particular yet, just let your thoughts come to you and let them go without trying to hang onto them.

You shouldn't be trying very hard to do anything in this state. After a few minutes of letting your mind run, you want to start focusing on your breathing or on a mantra that puts you in a good mood.

The goal in this part of the technique is to become relaxed in all states that include your body and your mind. Repeating a mantra in your head like “ I am happy” will put your mind in a positive state and will help you to empty your mind as well.

Let’s look at what’s really going on in this scenario with your body and your mind. By this point, your thoughts still may be racing and that’s okay. This happens with everyone, even the people who have been meditating their whole life so don’t worry about having a clear mind because at times it’s really hard to.

Now, with your body, it may feel tense and you may even feel a little bit off-balance which is natural as well. You may be in a position that has always worked for you but today you may have forgotten to stretch or maybe your body is adjusted a little bit improperly.

This is what the human body does, even though we have muscle memory, we still have issues getting in the same alignment each and every day so if you’re uncomfortable while doing this practice you may want to switch positions.

You can add a pillow to sit on or add another pillow under your head if you’re laying down. You want to get your mind and your body in as much control as possible, be patient with yourself, and allow your temple to relax.

Visualize the Life You Want to Live

Here comes the fun part of the process, you can start visualizing the life you always wanted to live or the life you wish to live. When you visualize things like this, you’re putting them out into the universe and to God.

He receives these thoughts and with you knowing that He is watching, this will put you in a better mood. You may not get an identical version of this dream in your future but you will get the feeling it gives you in the future for sure.

Back to the exercise, what you want to focus on first is the body that you have in this reality. If you’re not in the best of shape now, visualize what you would look like with your ideal body and try to emulate the feelings that this body gives you.

In your vision, you may be attractive too many and you may be more confident than the current you. Spend as much time as you need during this process to feel the full effect.

Next, you want to start looking at the lifestyle you want to live. It may be a nice house that you’re living in, your dream car in the driveway, and maybe your significant other with your kids running up to you for a hug.

Think of all the things you want in your ideal life from materialistic things to untangible things as well. Imagine a day in the life of this reality and have as much fun as possible.

You may get goosebumps from this experience which means that the technique is working. You’re also building a clear plan of the future you want which help you in your planning for that life once the practice is over.

Even if you don't feel the full effects of this exercise, try to smile so that you’re actually putting effort into enjoying this experience. It’s your vision and no one else can see it so you might as well go all out and really enjoy yourself.

Coming Back to Reality

When you feel that you’ve been taking on the practice long enough, you can slowly open your eyes and think about the experience you just had. If it was your first time then you may be surprised by the impact that it had on your mindset.

You want to carry the happiness you get from this exercise with you for the rest of the day and use that happiness to your advantage. This vision you had is now something you want to strive for.

So, you have to live your life in alignment with that dream which includes you doing the work that’s needed in order for you to live that life. The affirmation that you had in your head before may advance a bit into affirmations that are more identical to your vision.

Act like you’re living in the vision and act as if that vision has already come true. If you don’t have certain things from your vision in your real life then you need to have the mindset of those things actually being there and you have the choice to access them whenever you want.

Try this technique out today or whenever you have time to do so. This won’t only make you a happier person but it will also make you someone who’s living with a clear plan in mind. I’ll leave you with a quote from Bo Bennett that says

“Visualization is daydreaming with a purpose.”

A young adult who’s writing is geared towards self-improvement and self care. “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
