Being Overwhelmed Is a Good Thing

It’s obvious that you probably take on too many things at once and that's it’s really hard to cope with. Being overwhelmed is an issue that has been around since humans were put on earth. Sometimes, we get stressed out due to an abundance of options or because of certain responsibilities that were either put on us or that we took on.

This isn’t an easy issue to talk or write about but the more that we embrace it, the easier it will be to deal with. When you feel overwhelmed, your first instinct may be to complain or not let anyone know that you’re suffering from it.

When you do complain about it, you start to feel bad because you know that there are people who are in a worse position than you and that you’re actually lucky. Being the human you are, you have the right to complain but is it really productive?

Talking about our problems with someone who we trust or pay is another thing but when we are constantly complaining about our life in every situation we are in, it can get annoying for the people listening and even to ourselves at times.

For the people who tend to hold their issues in, you have to ask yourself if you think that’s productive or not either. When you don’t talk about your issues and you’re letting them destroy your confidence and well-being, it’s a problem whether you like it or not.

This can bring up negative thoughts and make you feel like a fish with no water. Every now and then you should try to speak to someone about what’s on your mind and if you’re not someone who doesn’t like to talk then you need to take action and work on those issues.

If you start using your stress to your advantage, then you won’t always see it as a bad thing. Being overwhelmed is a time for you to learn more about yourself and realize what you need in life in order to be happy. You can call it a reality check of some sorts if you like.

You Look Out For Yourself

One of the benefits that you have when being overwhelmed is the opportunity to start looking out for yourself. When you’re overwhelmed you can feel it, you know that something inside of you isn’t right. This could be your mindset or your actual physical body as well.

When we’re working every day and doing what we can to survive, we get lost in life and we don’t take time to really check up on ourselves. It usually takes a certain point of us getting tired or stressed for us to realize that something is off.

So, when feeling like this, start to intentionally take care of yourself. Look at what you’re eating and the lifestyle you’re living. There are some foods that make you more tired than others and there is also some food that can help you to relieve stress. Always check how your diet is when feeling under weather.

Next, look at your mind, what kind of thoughts are you putting out into the world? If you’re feeling overwhelmed then you may be having negative thoughts from time to time.

It’s time to switch that mindset into something more positive. When you look at the world and your life in a more positive light, the world and your life start to look at you in the same way. You can look at this as you being a mirror or magnet. The energy you put out is the energy you’ll receive, it’s important that you’re checking your thoughts whenever you get the chance, it allows you to regain focus.

Lastly, what about your appearance? If we look like a mess then that’s usually a representation of how our life is going. You want to be satisfied with your look when you walk out of the house. This does take some effort and you may have to start getting ready for work or wherever you go a little earlier than usual.

Here’s the thing, if you know you did your best to look good then you will automatically start to feel good. A small life hack that no one really talks about but it’s true. Changing your appearance can really help you clear your mind.

Focusing On What’s Important

Do you ever lose sight of what’s really important to you in your day-to-day life? Let’s first look at your responsibilities, this includes bills, errands, school, etc… We sometimes forget about these things when we’re doing something else in our life that’s not supposed to be the main focus.

These are things that have to get done and sometimes being overwhelmed helps you to wake up and remember that you have to do these things. They may not be fun to do all of the time but they add structure to your life whether you like it or not and you know it’s true.

Having structure is a big part of getting your life back on track when feeling stressed out. Start knocking out your responsibilities the soonest you can during the day and let that stress get away from you.

Now, what about your family and friends? These people can be the ones that may make you feel overwhelmed at times but these are also the people you can go to when you need to talk or if you need some advice.

Making these people in your life a priority is something you should be trying to improve upon daily. The stronger of a relationship you have with them, the more willing you will be to want to improve your life.

Being overwhelmed definitely makes you think about these people more and how you view them. If there’s someone out of this group of people you know but don’t talk to on a regular basis, give them a call out of the blue one day and check to see how they’re doing.

They’ll end up doing the same for you in the future, and you will now have someone else to talk to when you feel overwhelmed. Don’t forget about your main goal, there's a reason why you're doing everything that you’re doing now. Be more focused on the goals that you’re setting for yourself, forgetting about these goals will lead you to nowhere and you will start to feel lost later on in life.

Getting Prepared For The Future

There will be times in the future where you may feel overwhelmed as well, use this time now as a learning lesson. Come up with different techniques to defeat these negative feelings so that you can use them during your next obstacle.

These techniques and habits are built over time but when you start to put more intention behind them, they become more effective. You feel safe and confident that you can deal with this again because you’ll be prepared.

How many situations have you gone through in your life where you feel like you weren’t prepared? It’s a scary feeling, right? This is why you should do everything in your power to be more prepared.

Don’t you want to be able to help others who are feeling the same? Your friends become overwhelmed at times too and they may feel like they have no one to talk to, be that person for them that you needed when going through your struggle.

Use stress to your advantage instead of viewing it as negative. This is how you build grit and persevere through tough times. I’ll leave you with a quote from Rudyard Kipling that says

“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”

A young adult who’s writing is geared towards self-improvement and self care. “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
