How to Change Your Perspective Instantly For the Better

The way you look at life is the same way you will live your life

Perspective is always an interesting topic to always dive into. Everyone's perspective is different and there is no way for you to know what somebody else’s perspective actually looks like.

Imagine, there are so many different ways you can look at the world but we seem to always choose the one that hurts us the most. What causes us to grow with these different perspectives? Your childhood, the people who you surround yourself with, and the people who you look up to. Or is everyone born with a different one? Perspective is more of an ability than a trait.

We like to think that the world is against us but no one knows that for sure. One thing that everyone can agree on is that life is hard, or at least everyone has thought that it was once in their life. It’s not until we get older that we can look back on life and say that somethings that we went through didn’t have to be so hard.

What if your perspective were to change every day?

What if you were to wake up and tell yourself a different fairy tale about the world every morning?

In totality, our perspective adapts new outlooks but ultimately stays the same for the most part. With the power of being human and being able to change our thoughts, we can change our negative perspectives into more positive ones.

The world that we live in is made for us to learn from each other, right? Or is that just an opinion?

More importantly, is that just a perspective?

If you look at the world as a dark place then you will probably live a dark life for the most part. If you view the world as a bright place filled with opportunity at every corner then you will live a more optimistic lifestyle.

You get comfortable with imagination because it’s almost like an alternate universe. A universe that you hope exists or will someday exist.

So, how do you change your perspective into one that will make you live better?

Realize what kind of perspective you’ve been using

When you get ready for bed at night, is your perspective on the world still the same as the one you had this morning?

Having a negative perspective on life can prevent you from reaching your full potential.

Instead of seeing an opportunity, you see viscous obstacles. Being able to realize that your perspective isn’t a great one is a step in the right direction when trying to change. You may be so used to being upset that you don’t even realize that it’s part of your identity. It has become normal for you to be discouraged because you think that's all that life has to offer.

Once you are able to start recognizing your negative viewpoint on the world then you can start making changes. Another step you can take when trying to change your perspective for the better is to notice your attitude towards people.

How do you treat people?

Not just the people around you, but the people who you don’t see every day. Does it ever occur to you that you may have a similar mindset to the stranger who is crossing the street with you? It should be clear in your head that you can’t trust everyone, but you should make an effort to give people a chance.

Striking up random conversations with strangers can help you to start changing your perspective on life instantly. Don’t be a know it all, be willing to learn from others, maybe they have a perspective on life that you’ve always wanted.

You should be strong enough to admit that your perspective on life isn't the best, doing this will help you to seek change faster and see what areas in life you can improve on.

Figure out what kind of perspective you want to have

Usually, through movies or t.v. shows, we see somebody that seems to have life all figured out. Their perspective on the issues they face is admirable. If you don’t know what kind of perspective you want to have then you can start looking at people who you admire the most. Learn more about them and try to observe some things that they do differently than everyone else. This way you are slowly realizing what it is about that person that gives you hope for a better future.

These people may be around you or you may have no contact with them, do your research either way. When it comes to research, there are many articles online that give you options for different perspectives you should have. If you want to have a more positive outlook on life than you can look up different ways to do so.

The amount of information you will find about this topic is unlimited.

Maybe there's a perspective that you used to have when you were younger that made you happy. Think back to those times and see what about that perspective made you enjoy life more.

Learning about new perspectives and trying them out can be done simply by adding a new mantra or quote into your everyday thinking. One quote that I like to live my life by says “we suffer more in imagination than in reality.” This helps me to remember that some things aren't so bad as they seem.

Look for a quote that matches your ideal lifestyle and repeat it to yourself every day and in times of worry or doubt.

The last resource that you can use to change your perspective which is also related to research is books. Books are the key to learning about new perspectives, each author is able to tell you things that they have learned and have realized in their life. You never know, one of these new perspectives that you read about may have the power to change your life.

Put that new perspective to the test

Now that you have your new perspective selected and ready to go, it’s time to put it to the test. The only way to know if this perspective will be good for you going forward is to test it.

Start by putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. Remind yourself of what that new perspective is about and see how it can help you when dealing with a tough situation.

Does this perspective help you to remain calm and take action? Or does it lead you into a darker pit than before?

You should also be having this perspective when things are going well.

How does this perspective make you feel when you are already in a good mood?

These are just a few questions you can ask yourself daily when adapting to a new perspective. Take some notes during the day on how your new perspective is affecting you. Is it helping you or is it making your life more stressful? When taking notes, you should also be tracking your progress. This will help you to stay aware of your new mindset constantly, watching yourself improve into a better person over time is exciting.

If you start to see the world in a different light than it’s pretty safe to say that your new perspective is working. Remember, if your new perspective is not helping you become the person you wanted to be then it’s always ok to apply a different one to your life.

This whole experience is about trial and error, some perspectives that you find fascinating may not be for you. If you start to feel lost during this process, remind yourself why you wanted to adopt a new perspective in the first place.

Changing your perspective on the world can take some getting used to. This is something that is definitely not for the weak-minded. I’ll leave you with a quote from Aldous Huxley that says

“There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception.”

A young adult who’s writing is geared towards self-improvement and self care. “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
