How to Get Over a Bad Day

Why is it that bad days seem to last forever?

Having a bad day? Well, you’re not alone, there are people every day experiencing something stressful in their life. Bad days are unavoidable, they happen to the happiest people as well and it's something that everyone has to go through.

Celebrities may look like they’re having the time of their life in pictures from paparazzi but at the end of the day, they’re humans just like you and me. They go through struggles in their life just as much as we do and just because those problems aren’t blown up into proportion like the rest of their lives doesn’t mean that they’re not suffering a little bit too.

What do bad days teach you?

Well, you know that something bad is bound to happen to you in the future but you never know when. Yes, you can live on your toes, looking over your shoulders all of your life or you can deal with those problems when they arrive.

Dealing with those problems as soon as they come into your life is the best route to take but not the one that anyone wants to deal with. Dealing with stressful situations when they arrive can be exhausting and puts you at risk for being more stressed out than when n first were dealing with the problem.

Use the future as a tool when dealing with your issues upfront, especially when having a bad day. In the future, you will be so thankful for you doing the dirty work then so that you don’t have to deal with it later. Letting our problems drag out through the entirety of our day can cause us to say that we had a “bad day.”

It’s not the end of the world when you seem like nothing is going right in your life for a day, life will take its course, and if you’re smart enough, then you will learn from those bad days as much as you can. Sometimes bad days seem like they’re going to end and we don’t know how to deal with them until the day is over.

How Can You Make That Day Better

If your day is going not as you planned, do something fun when you have time or engage in a productive activity that keeps your mind occupied. Go to the park and play your favorite sport or go to the gym and pump some iron, these are only two things that you can do to save yourself from becoming too stressed out.

What do you consider to be fun?

If it’s going out to eat, treat yourself, we all have bad days and we deserve to give ourselves a break when they do occur. Letting that bad day carry over to the next day can really put you into a hole of depression causing you to be more unproductive than ever.

Give yourself a break from the fast pace world we live in, enjoy yourself when you can because you never know when your last moment is going to be. There are some people who find joy in figuring out their problems. It’s not something that is easy to do, but it keeps their mind busy, and they do the work now so that they don’t have to deal with it later.

Channel your energy on doing something productive like cooking food for the rest of the week or working on your side hustle so that it can receive growth. Out of many bad days, there are is always at least one good one or one that isn’t as bad as you think it is.

When dealing with a bad day, look at your life from a bird’s eye view, and tell yourself that it could be worse. Use a journal to remind yourself you're thankful for, sounds kind of cheesy but it really does help you cope with those bad days. Sometimes we forget about the life that we have now and all of the things that are going right in our life. Giving yourself a written version of your mind to look at can be refreshing and also stress relieving while you’re having a rough 24 hours.

Start Planning For Tomorrow

Keep your journal open and on the next page make a small schedule for tomorrow. Just because today was bad doesn’t mean that tomorrow has to be. Organize your day so that when you wake up you’re not stressed about trying to figure out what to do.

This is how bad days begin, as always they start off very disorganized and the day just gets worse and worse. Start from the morning and think about what you want to get done that day and what you want to do the day. I always like to think of fun things that I can do the following day whenever I’m feeling down, this gives me something to look forward to.

Be happy that you’ve had some good days in your life, you don’t dwell on those good days because you were too busy enjoying life. Is there a way to not ever have a bday day? Even though they are inevitable, you can still find a way to enjoy yourself through those hard times.

Beneath your schedule, make a shortlist of goals that you want to accomplish for the day like getting a certain amount of homework done or pushing yourself to get groceries after work. When these goals are set at the beginning of your day and accomplished towards the end, then you'll be a lot happier with your day and will forget about all the bad stuff that has happened.

It can be exciting to think about the next day but it’s also important to not forget about the present moment. The present moment can be stressful and scary at times but it’s all you have. Finding ways to enjoy the present moment will cause you to have fewer bad days and more days filled with clarity because you’re always focusing on the now, not the future or past but now!

Create a Self-Care Routine

You need to learn to relax a bit, if you’re someone who works a lot and is always having bad days then this will not be an easy transition. Learn to relax by doing nothing. That’s right, do absolutely nothing, learn to sit still, and become comfortable with your thoughts.

You can do this through a guided meditation or by laying down on your bed starring at the ceiling. Don’t pressure yourself to constantly be doing something, if you have the chance to sit down in a quiet place and take five to ten minutes focusing on your thoughts, then your bad days won’t end off so badly. Work on your inner and outer body.

Fill your mind with positive affirmations when going through tough days and eat healthy foods that will give you more energy. Nothing is worse than being physically exhausted when you’re having a bad day. As far as your outer body, take hot showers and work on your skin. Use a face mask to relieve any dirtiness that you may feel on your face and moisturize yourself with different oils. You can even use a humidifier to practice aromatherapy.

Having a bad day is normal, but to make it less normal, do some of these practices when going through one. Having tools like this to rely on will help you view your life in a more positive light. I’ll leave you with a quote from Johnny Depp that says

“It’s only a bad day, not a bad life.”

A young adult who’s writing is geared towards self-improvement and self care. “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
