How to Heal Yourself Emotionally
We tear ourselves down occasionally, it’s hard to be positive when nothing is working out for us. So, we decide to blame ourselves for all of our mishappenings and we even go as far as to put ourselves down.
At times, this can give us the motivation to be a better version of ourselves but also this can lead us into a place of darkness. This negative space that we put ourselves into makes us lazy and unmotivated.
How can we heal ourselves when there is so much negativity going on?
How do we get to the brighter side of these situations?
A lot of this frustration can come from overworking ourselves and not realizing how important it is to take time out for ourselves every now and then. In order to stop tearing ourselves down, we have to understand how tough life can be at certain moments.
There will be times where you don’t feel like doing something or you may feel like you don’t have the energy for it but you can push through. For the times that you do push through it’s crucial that you remember to heal yourself emotionally.
Healing ourselves physically is good too but can only do so much for the inner us. How do we get to a place where we feel renewed inside and out? Well, it starts from not relying on validation from others. Putting ourselves at the level that someone else wants us to be at can be very degrading and make us feel hopeless.
What if the people you want to impress aren’t impressed by what you do? You shouldn’t care what they think, it’s hard to do so but not having that care in mind will help you reach that place of healing that you want so bad.
Listen to healing music
If you don’t know where to start on your healing journey then it is best to go toward music. Healing music can be part of any genre, it’s your perception of the music that determines whether if it's healing or not.
Look at the music that you listen to now, are the lyrics helping you get through tough times, or are they making things even worse? Sometimes the music that we listen to can sound good but have a negative impact on our lives. Even though we don’t claim to promote what the artist is talking about in their songs, we’re still listening to it consistently which causes us to put some of our principles into question.
The principles that you’ve developed over time are correct when thought about by you but to somebody else, they can be wrong. Healing yourself with music can be used to help shape your principles back into the right order. It’s good to find music that speaks to you, some artist is really good at doing this because they know some of their past experiences can be relatable to others like you and me.
Using these words to heal yourself can be done by singing along and putting yourself into the place of the artist who was able to learn from that story they're telling and use it into creativity with the song.
Find a way to be creative while listening to music, do some painting or coloring, or even write in your journal if you want to.
Try listening to some music that you don't usually listen to for healing purposes. Many genres are similar to each other and some do a better job of healing than others.
Rap is great to listen to but is known for its catchy beats more than its lyrics. A genre like R&B or Pop are genres where artists usually display the talents of their voice and lyrics more clearly. This is all part of the healing process, give it some time and you will start to understand the importance of music when it comes to healing.
Read a self-improvement book
These kinds of books can get overlooked due to their popularity and honest reviews. It's true that self-improvement books are not for everyone but everyone should give them a try at least once in their life.
I remember when I first went from fiction to self-improvement when it came to novels and it changed my life for the better. I don’t read self-improvement books at a high rate but when I do, I learn a lot of information about myself.
Self-improvement books contain good information when it comes to healing. They tell you how to deal with tough times and what steps to take in order to overcome those obstacles. Doing this alone and with no help or experience can be useful for the future, but having the knowledge of a self-improvement book can help you through those hurdles even faster than usual.
The books also contain a lot of relatable information as I mentioned earlier with music. Being able to relate to a book is one of the best feelings in the world. These books provide healing by giving you examples of how to heal yourself with some of the author’s previous encounters with stress and frustration.
Having this different perspective will motivate you to keep pushing and help you understand that self-healing is possible. Put the emotions that you’re having onto these books and let them guide you into a mindset of positivity. It takes time but when reading these books for a few months you’ll start to see the healing impact that it can have on your life.
Rejuvenate your life by reading more self-improvement books and allowing yourself to be open to gaining new information. If you find that healing yourself is hard then you should try reading one of the books when you get the chance.
Talking to others
It can be hard to heal yourself at times so you need to get into the mind of others when you can. People who are good to talk to when it comes to healing is a therapist, your closest friends, or some family members. These are the people who will be understanding and actually care about what you have to say.
You don’t want to walk to a stranger explaining all of your problems, they wouldn’t know what to say! Letting close ones know the issues that are going are in your life will help your communication skills and will get you the answer to your problems.
We keep our negative and doubtful thoughts bottled up to ourselves for so long that speaking them into words can help us get a more clear understanding of what we’re having trouble with.
Get advice from these people, they have past experiences and lessons to share with you. Some of these helpful tips that they give can be very beneficial and may even surprise you a little bit. Speaking to close ones lets you know that you’re not alone they too will need to be healed at times and it is your job to return the favor when you can.
No matter how much healing you try to do on your own it's important to still go to people who you can trust for help as well.
Heal yourself with a few of the tips I gave above, only you will know when you’ve been healed. The process of healing can take a long time but with the right attitude and determination, it can be done. I’ll leave you with a quote from Janice Trachtman that says
