Numb to Pain

At this point, it shouldn’t affect you

You’ve been through so many hard times, disappointments, and failures to the point where you’re not even surprised when they do appear. Waking up to a list full of things you didn't see coming can become very frustrating but you remind yourself that it’s is life.

You’re still alive for a reason and you’re going to keep going through these rough patches. Everyone deals with times like this because it’s just part of life, if you think you’re going to live a carefree life 24/7 then you have another thing coming.

Challenges are among us and we have to be ready for them at all times. We may not know what to do in each situation but something that we should be doing every single time we get bad news is to act like we’re not too affected by it.

You become numb to pain over time because it gets to a point where you get very overwhelmed by it. What you used to complain about is now part of your life and you end up adapting to it.

It’s kind of like having an itch in the same spot for a long period of time. At first, it stops you from doing your work at times but after a while, you learn how to still get work done with it there.

I remember when my fingers got sore from writing so much that I couldn't type for more than a few minutes at a time. At the time I was still writing on Medium daily and before I knew it, I was still getting articles done with those injured fingers.

I wrote for five days straight and that pain became numb after a while and then it healed. Don't get too carried away with pain or failure, it happens to the best of us and eventually, you’ll adapt to it.

The same thing goes for when you’re getting tired when doing your work, sometimes you’ll burn out or feel like you’re going to burn out but over time you’re able to still get productive work done even when you’re tired. Don’t forget how powerful pain can be, you can use it to do many good things.

Life Hits You Unexpecdetely

There’s nothing like getting hit with obstacles back to back on Monday morning. You had a good weekend thinking that you were going into a good week but all of a sudden the weather is dark.

You wake up later than you were supposed to, you’re late to work, you forgot to turn in your project for school, etc… Life happens and guess what, life goes on. You should see what goes on in space, while we’re all here living an ordinary life.

There are also people who are less fortunate than you and they are already used to dealing with obstacles daily. Just because you’re yawning and you didn't get as much sleep as you wanted to doesn't mean you’re exempted from receiving mishappenings from the universe.

You are a product of your actions and if you’re going to complain about being tired then maybe you need to do a self-check. Life is going to hit you unexpectedly sometimes when you do see it coming but also when you don't see it at all.

This is what makes us stronger in the long haul because once we adapt to struggle, we’re able to adapt to many other things life has to throw at us. Do you remember a day in your life where nothing was going right?

Your parents might've taken you to a new school or it took you longer to clean your room than you would’ve liked. Now you’re not always going to be in the mood to push through pain, as a matter of fact, you’re going to feel like it for a longer period of time.

Hard times love to make their way into your life but you should also love them too. Don't resist, keep going, and push through it because it ‘ making you better by the process.

I’m running off of three hours of sleep right and I really didn’t want to write this article today but I pushed through it. Just like how you can push through anything you put your mind to.

Becoming a Shield

It’s not that you don't care but you understand that life gets hard at times and that it can happen very quickly. Have you ever had a good day go bad in a matter of seconds?

It hurts because you put so much effort into making sure you would have a good day and because of one incident, your day is ruined. Having one incident is an easy day, try more like 3 incidents in a row at the same time.

You don't only get frustrated but you get a feeling of rage. You read all the self-help books, you listen to all the motivational podcasts and you do what they say.

Unfortunately, when those things don't work, you get stuck. It’s in a very dark place and a lot of the time, we don't know if we can get out of it. Is there someone you’re trying to prove wrong in the process?

Maybe so, but you have to deal with yourself at the end of the day. You need to become a shield, what does this mean? Darkness is real and believe it or not, it’s created all in our minds.

This darkness will take jabs at you until it sees that you’re knocked down. This is something you’re going to feel every single day of your life and of course, everyone goes through it.

Even that person you know who’s always positive has some darkness in them that they either are holding in or they’re not doing anything with it. I like to think that I have the Captain American shield on me at all times.

For the simple fact that nothing has been affecting me too much. This morning is a great example when going into the office today, I saw that the weather was very dark.

That was the first red flag I saw, as a few minutes went by, I realized that I didn't turn in the homework that was due yesterday or to even do it at all. That was the first jab, next was an email from my school saying that I was selected for a “random Covid-19 test.”

Lastly, I’m struggling with finding people for my business for the entire week. Sometimes, you have to be willing to be uncomfortable to put yourself in a position to deal with that same uncomfortably in the future.

You Have to Keep Going

Keep going, if you can’t do it for yourself, do it for the people that are supporting you, you have to have grit. You’re going to get so pissed off to the point where any sort of pain is numb to you.

It’s a weird feeling because you know it’s not the healthiest way to think but you’re also able to keep your cool. When you’re able to keep your cool, you’re also able to think more clearly.

Clear thoughts, allow you to be more focused even when you’re not in the best mood. There are a few tips that you can keep in mind when you’re running out of fuel and feeling a bit discouraged about your life.

You’re not going to figure out how to do what you need to do right away but if you keep pushing and giving your best effort, the universe will give you what you want in return.

So, even if you keep a straight face through the pain, your mindset needs to be straight. Negative thoughts come and go but you can push them away when you’re doing what you have to do.

Work, work, and work. It’s that simple, it only gets hard when you don’t see anything in return. Who knows when your time will come but don't let the losses affect you too much. I’ll leave you with a quote from Joyce Rachelle that says

“Some scars don’t hurt. Some scars are numb. Some scars rid you of the capacity to feel anything ever again.”
