The Benefits of Talking to the Universe & God

There’s always someone to talk to…

People have their own beliefs about a higher power and they have the right to. Whether you trust in the universe or God, there’s a belief you have about the way life works. It can be hard not having anyone to talk to whenever you’re going through some tough days.

You can’t talk to your friends necessarily about certain things because they don’t know that side of you and you don't want them to see it. You also have family you could talk to but they either give you some advice that’s really hard to take in or they give you advice you’ve heard before. Lastly, you may have a therapist you talk to but on this particular day, you don’t have a scheduled appointment.

So, now you’re stuck with no one to talk to, your day isn’t getting any better and it feels like there’s nothing you can do. But, you start to think of life as a whole and who’s in control of your life. Ultimately it’s you, but you also remember that there’s a higher power.

A power that you’ve always heard about and always somewhat believed but you’ve never taken the time to actually speak to that higher power. This can be nerve-racking at first to do and you also may not know how to really approach the situation.

Here’s one thing to keep in mind: there’s no right way of talking to that higher power, that power will listen to you regardless of how you approach the situation.

So, you finally build up the confidence to speak, whether it’s out loud or in your head but you’re doing it. It may feel like nothing is happening but you ask for what you want and you ask for answers.

Now when this process is over you have to understand the benefits will come and they will come at a moment when you least expect it, so have some patience.

Just relax and let your higher power do what it needs to do to answer your prayers. You have to trust in this higher power and know He is listening. If you don’t then how will you have any expectations for these requests to come true?

The benefits of talking to God or the universe are endless but if you’re having a hard time with the whole process, you can just focus on a few simple ones.

Building a Spiritual Routine

When you talk to the universe on a consistent basis, you build a routine that ends up helping you out a lot. Depending on when you do this practice, your routine will build itself organically. When you take time out of your day to sit down and really talk to a higher power, you’re intentionally making space for your dreams to come true.

During our regular lives, we complain about some things not going our way and we question the universe sarcastically as to why certain things happen to us. This isn’t building a spiritual practice, it’s just making us weaker and our mindset becomes negative as well.

So, when you intentionally try to build a spiritual practice into your life, you are making a change. It may seem like a small change at first but you’re doing your future self a favor.

What’s also important to understand is many things in life that we truly want to accomplish, whether it’s peace, happiness, or joy, take time. There are no shortcuts to receiving these benefits, the only way you’ll get closer to them is by using this spiritual practice to make it clear to the world that this is what you want.

When you’re out and about at work, school, the grocery store and you’re constantly complaining about everything (I’m guilty of this too) your thoughts aren’t clear, they’re a mess. What you think is what you become.

So, if you have negative thoughts all of the time and your not making an effort to organize these thoughts and make them better, you’re reality is going to become a mess as well.

Meeting people gets harder, exercising gets harder, and living gets harder. This is your reality and if you don’t want this to be your reality anymore, you’re going to have to put in the work to fix it. Again, this takes time, effort, and most importantly patience. It all starts with building healthy routines like this to get you started.

Finding Answers in the Conversations

Let’s get into the actual practice itself, once you’re sitting down and have your eyes closed, you can have a conversation with the universe. Focus on every single word you say, make sure it has some meaning behind it.

The beginning of the conversation may be a little tough or awkward just like how it is when you meet someone for the first time but it gets better after a while. Just like small talk, if you make good enough small talk, you end up having a really deep conversation with that person.

Now, once the conversation between you and the universe is flowing you will begin to have thoughts that kind of sidetrack the conversation. You want to pay attention to these thoughts and see which ones have to actually do with the conversation and which ones don’t.

For example, when you’re praying, you may start to think about how you can start achieving some of the goals you set out for yourself. This is the thought you want to start diving into next, but if you have thought about what you’re going to eat for dinner later, this is one you’re going to let go of for now.

You won’t always get answers right away in these conversations but you will understand your thought process and have a clearer understanding of what’s actually on your mind.

Have you ever been put in a situation where someone asked you how you were doing and you didn’t know how to answer? This is a byproduct of your head not being clear. This happens to everyone, no one is perfect and people had to go through this in order learn that their mind wasn’t clear.

Now, with you becoming one of these people, you have control of how you want your mind to be. Sometimes, you need to just sit down and think about life, it’s that simple, nothing more. You start understanding that this really is a process and that your questions are being answered to you over time and through tough life lessons. You may not be able to see it at first, but after a while, it will make sense.

Knowing You’ll Be Okay

Your higher power is watching over you and He has a plan for you. Once you understand this and you can put your life into perspective, you won't worry as much about the future.

This isn't to say that there won’t be obstacles that scare you and really put you to the test but at the end of it all, you’ll be okay. Remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and you have the opportunity to learn from these obstacles. Everything happens for a reason which includes the good and the bad.

You just have to really learn from life and from the conversations you have with that higher power. There were also be situations that occur where nothing makes sense and you’re confused but again, it’s all for a reason, it's for the greater good.

Live your life like this and live in the present moment. That way, you can enjoy what’s in front of you and really experience what’s in front of you.

Push yourself to have more of these conversations with the universe and God. Have an open mind and be willing to experience a spiritual change in your life. I’ll leave you with a quote from Elisabeth Elliot that says

“Prayer lays hold of God’s plan and becomes the link between his will and its accomplishment on earth. Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit’s prayer.”

A young adult who’s writing is geared towards self-improvement and self care. “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
