How rough was last year for you? Probably didn’t go as you planned, which is okay but what about your goals? Did you ever accomplish them or did you just decide to give up on them?
Well, you’ve probably heard all your life that you shouldn't;t give up on your goals and that it takes hard work to get to them. There’s a lot of self-doubts that go into the process of achieving your goals and it’s definitely mind over matter. There are some days where we tell ourselves that our goals are too out of reach or that we’re out of our minds if we think we could actually accomplish them.
Your initial motivation for the goal seems to fade away after the first few months of taking action and you try to look for something else that might be your calling.
You probably already have regret from something in your past that you think could’ve really helped you out in the future or even today. Yes, we all have a regret like this where something ended up coming in the way of it and made us forget all about it.
For me, this was soccer, if I would’ve kept playing soccer up until today, who knows what I’d be doing. Or at least that's what I like to think. Either way, your fate was already set out for you before you even entered the earth, everything that has happened up until your life now has happened for a reason and is part of your life story.
You’ll be looking back at some of the tougher moments you’ve had recently in the future and laugh about it or think to yourself of how that was meant to happen.
Whatever motivation you had from last year, try to bring it over into this year. Even though it may not be a lot it’s still something and you can use that little bit of motivation to create even more of it this year. Motivation doesn't come easy these days and in order for us to accomplish the goals we’ve set for this year we have to be motivated, we have to be motivated more than ever.
Get Inspired From Other’s Growth
Looking at the growth of others can be really helpful in the path to finding more motivation. Getting inspiration from people who you look up to seems to be the easiest source of motivation that people get.
This is common on the social media platform YouTube where many viewers have seen the growth of many of their favorite YouTubers. Being able to see the growth in their channels from the number of subscribers they have to the increase of quality in their videos seems to really help people to feel inspired.
This has been a constant source of motivation for me in my journey of self-improvement. People have been so inspired by these influencers that they have had the courage to start their own YouTube channel and begin their own journey.
It’s really a beautiful concept to look at and it has helped many people to reach their goals during recent years. Aside from seeing growth on social media, you can look at somebody who you may know personally for motivation. This can be a friend, co-worker, or even a cousin that you’ve known for a long time.
Being able to see the growth in someone you know helps you believe that you can grow too as a person. What’s special about seeing the growth in people you know is that you can ask them for advice whenever. The hardest part about this is to get over the embarrassment you might get from asking them.
You shouldn’t feel embarrassed to ask a close one how they were able to improve as a person, if anything this person will have a newfound respect for you and they will also love to hear the compliment as well. If you’re looking for an easy conversation starter then you can start with something like this where you’re asking a co-worker how they were able to get promoted or asking your best friend how they were able to get so good at a certain sport.
Learn from others on how you can grow, seeing growth in yourself takes time but you will constantly feel motivated to grow once it’s already been apparent in someone else.
Let Go of Regret
How exactly do you let go of regret? Well, there are some things you can do but one of the most important things you should do is forgive yourself. This should be a daily practice, the more you are willing to let go of regret the more willing it will be to leave you. Regrets are only there to teach you a lesson, a lesson that you can pass down to your kids, family, and friends.
Look for opportunities where you can teach people about regret. Think about other people who have to deal with regret in the world, for some, the consequences are far worse than many. But it happened, and you can’t go back in time to fix that problem, all you can do is move forward and learn.
If there’s one word you should constantly be reminding yourself of in 2021 is “learn.” Learning more about yourself and the world around you will help you let go of regret and make more room for motivation in your mind and in your body.
What does motivation make us do or what does it have the power to make us do?
It causes us to take action, it causes us to think of how we can achieve our goals. Even when our plan for our goals isn’t too clear, we still have the motivation to steer us in the right direction.
Regret is holding you back right now and that’s not okay, instead of viewing it as something that is preventing you from growing, look at it as an opportunity to grow. Only you have the power to let go of your regrets and some days will be easier than others but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it. It’s definitely possible, learning how to let go of regret will show you that motivation isn’t too hard to find once you really focus on having it.
Think of motivation as a superpower, contain it and use it only when you have to. The more motivation you have, the more you’ll be willing to take action.
Constantly Remind Yourself of Your Goals
You probably think of your goals a few times a day naturally but how often do you manually put them into your brain? Well, not with an actual hand but just actually reminding yourself of your goals.
Saying them out loud when you’re bored or even reminding yourself in your head when you’re on your way to work are two ways you can remind yourself.
Having these reminders in your head lets you know that you’re actually serious about these goals. Now that your head is filled with the nonstop thought of your goals, you’ll be motivated to do them.
Another way of doing this is by writing down your goals daily or even weekly in a journal. Seeing your thoughts come to life on paper is an extraordinary feeling that shows you how you view your goals. If you write down your goals and your smile then you’re on the right track to gaining motivation.
Motivation is a key to success, it’s also the key to happiness too! Follow your passions and tackle down the obstacles that are trying to keep you away from your goals. I’ll leave you with a quote from Winston Churchill that says
“The Pessimist Sees Difficulty In Every Opportunity. The Optimist Sees Opportunity In Every Difficulty.”
