Your Goals Don’t Care About How You Feel Pt. 2
Failure isn’t an option
Everyone has goals and it can be hard to reach them within the time period you would like to. First things first, you need to understand that your goals may take a long time to achieve and there will also be goals that you may never achieve.
That’s the negative side of me talking but it’s part of reality and you have to let go of some goals in order to achieve bigger ones. The goals you let go of are usually goals that we made based on your life during the point in time when you decided for it to be the goal.
Guess what? You grow and you need to change and with that being said your goals will change as well. Do you know what goals you have now and do you know how important they will be in the future?
You have to be able to differentiate what you want now versus what you'll want in the future. An example of this can be someone in their 20’s wanting to be a millionaire as soon as possible but not thinking about how they can start building generational wealth to having money during retirement.
Thinking ahead can get you far in life and you can start living your life with a plan. The only problem is when we do have a plan set into place for us, it’s really hard to follow it.
There are days where you’re going to be tired and you’re not going to want to even follow your plan, you’re just going to want to sleep. No one cares that you’re tired except maybe a few family members, once you have a goal in front of you, you have to set expectations on yourself.
That expectation can vary depending on the person but just know that you’re going to lose some sleep, this will start to show on your face and you can even feel it in your body.
You feel like you need to rest but you can't just yet, you have to keep moving forward because your goals do not care about how tired you are, they only want to know how much effort you’re putting in.
Being Tired is Temporary
When you’re feeling tired and you have a day where you didn't get a lot of sleep the night before, just keep in mind it’s a temporary feeling. You’re going to regret waking up early and not sleeping in when you first wake up but as your day goes on and you complete your to-do list, you get a boost of energy.
Also, make sure you’re going outside for at least a few minutes a day and take a walk, it’s not going to kill you to get some fresh air as a matter of fact it’s going to make you feel even better.
Taking a walk across the street from my office over to Starbucks is something I look forward to every morning now. While I’m usually going there to get some work done and meet new people, I enjoy watching the high-rise buildings being built next door and smelling the different aromas through the air whether it’s coffee beans, or Mexican food.
There’s always something to admire when you go for a walk and it’s something that we should start doing daily if we have the opportunity. You may get used to it after a while but that’s why you can always try new places and get out of your comfort zone.
The best way to get rid of tiredness is by getting out of your comfort zone. It’s better than splashing cold water on your face, it’s better than drinking an energy drink and it’s better than hitting your head on your desk when you’re about to fall asleep.
If you’re feeling tired, look at it as an opportunity to get up and get active for the day. Often times we get so focused on our work to the point where we reach a flow state.
Now, a flow state is good because it makes it you more productive but the only con about it is you end up sitting down for a really long time. You getting up and walking around your neighborhood and even at you’re job will help you to get more energized for the rest of the day.
They Don’t Care About Sadness
When you’re feeling tired, you’ll realize that there’s a lot of stress and sadness that come into play. They both correlate in many ways but for now, let’s just talk about the sad part about things.
Your goals are emotionally tied to your brain, when you think about your goals, you get happy, you get excited and you want to achieve them as much as possible. After a lot of hard work and dedication, you’ll soon come to realize that your goals may still not be in your presence and that's where the sadness comes in.
I got sad when looking back on my first year of writing on Medium, I didn't make much as I wanted to that year and it caused me to question everything. Although I still did make some money, part of me wasn’t satisfied and I even hesitated to go for year two.
Stop yourself whenever you feel sad and you have a moment of doubt between you and your goal. Don't get too emotionally attached to them because they could be gone right before you know it.
Also, your goals may not be as fulfilling as you thought, this is why you hear so many successful people say money doesn't buy happiness. It probably buys temporary happiness but it will never make them happy forever.
It’s important to know what you want but it can be so hard when you’re young. This leaves you with a few options, you can either give up on those goals or you can dissect the goal to see what you really want out of life.
If you’re someone who wants to be wealthy in the future aks yourself “why?” Make yourself uncomfortable and don't try to fight it, if you don’t know or if it’s not for a good reason that’s okay.
This takes a lot of courage to do so don't beat yourself up for not knowing but if you want the lifestyle that comes with it, then your mind starts planning for that goal.
Outwork Yourself
You should be working harder today than yesterday, this is how you improve in anything you do. Maybe you’re having a day where you don't have much on your schedule, well what are you doing with that free time?
Are you networking, doing self-care, working on your business? It’s easy to get anxious when you have an empty schedule but you shouldn't be. This is a time where you’re planning and growing, the only way to outwork yourself is by upping the productivity each and every day.
At the end of your day when you get into bed, you should be exhausted and feel proud of yourself for what you did that day. Days like this usually start off pretty slow and you think that nothing is going to get done but then all of a sudden, all it takes is for you to make one move.
Walking up to that one person and introducing yourself, speaking more than usual, or even trying something that you’ve never done before with your business like cold calling can do wonders for your mindset.
If you separate your feelings from your goals, you will find success a lot faster than most. What’s the worst that can happen when you do more than you feel like. I’ll leave you with a quote from Michelle Obama that says
“The only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”
